Armada Expert Advisor: Sensitive System with Solid Returns

Today we'll be taking a peek at the Armada expert advisor (EA), an automated trading system that works on the Metatrader 4 (MT4) platform aiming to deliver some profits to you while you're preoccupied with anything but trading. And while the trading system turned out quite frugal upon inspection, it has so far shown decent performance results.

In our review, we'll be using a demo account linked to Myfxbook, which has been active since January 26, 2014. This does not give us plenty of data to count on, but as I said in the review of the Best Scalper EA, once in a while we need to look at newbies to the field of automated trading. We are all hungry for new stuff, right? But the main concern here is not that there is little activity but that the account is demo, as the Armada EA is a scalper and such robots perform very differently in demo and live conditions. Well, this is what we have, fellow traders, and we have to be satisfied with it. The good piece of news is that the robot can work with an initial investment of $100, at least this is what the designated website says, so supporting the trade of this one is not very expensive and losses do not seem scary.

Armada EA trades with the GBP/CAD and GBP/CHF pairs – this is nice to see, as most scalpers trade with the popular EUR/USD or GBP/USD pairs. The developers obviously have a taste for originality. The trading is done using the 15-minute (M15) time frame, with the robot trading two hours each night.

A very good indicator is that this is not an aggressive scalper – the average trade duration is 1h51min, which is way bigger than the seconds for trading seen with impulse scalpers. The number of positions open in a series is also small, so we can say that this is a wisely moderate scalper.

The performance of Armada EA is very solid, although the profit curve is not the best we've seen.

On the brighter side, the profit obviously picked up since the onset of March – you can see how it has steeply risen since then. The gain after only two months of trading amounts to 19%, a very good result. Moreover, it is accompanied by a low drawdown of 7%, which indicates low risks of losses depleting your account. The return-to-drawdown ratio is at 2.7, an acceptable level, showing that we can expect at least some humble returns for what we invest.

The weak spot of this EA is its sensitivity, something which is unfortunately valid for scalpers by default. The average pips per trade are at 4.2, which is below the reading of 5 pips that we recommend and points to the fact that the system is very susceptible to the effects of spreads and slippage. When picking a Forex broker for this EA, consider two of our lists: the list of FX brokers with the tightest spreads and the list of FX brokers that accept scalping.

You can buy the Armada EA from the site of the vendors for $99, which is a pretty good deal. Moreover, this is the cheapest scalper we've seen for quite some time.

I believe that this is a good scalper although it will take time and some live trading to show what this machine is capable of. Its strongest qualities are the ability to keep drawdown low and to deliver solid profits, while the weak spot is the system sensitivity. If you manage to pick the right broker, the Armada EA may be a good shot.
